Morocco’s largest dam and third largest in Africa: Al Wahda reaches a record filling level and nears maximum capacity

As of May 31, 2026, the Al Wahda Dam, Morocco’s largest hydraulic infrastructure, boasts a filling rate of 88.73%. With over three billion cubic meters of water in reserve, the facility located in the Ouezzane province has reached a record level and is nearing its maximum capacity, thereby ensuring enhanced water security ahead of the summer season. The Al Wahda Dam, the Kingdom’s largest and the third largest in Africa, shows a record filling level as of May 31, 2026.

With more than three billion cubic meters of water stored in its reservoir, this strategic facility located in the Ouezzane province approaches the summer in a very comfortable water situation, despite rising temperatures.

Official data from the Ministry of Equipment and Water confirms this positive dynamic, with a filling rate reaching 88.73%. This is a spectacular increase compared to the same period last year, when the level was limited to 58.27%. This notable improvement stems directly from the significant water inflows recorded over the past three months, fueled by the flooding of the Ouargha River and the technical support of neighboring dams such as Bouhouda, Bab Louta, and Bab Ouender.
